Looking at the first part of 2007 (and back at 2006), here's what's cooking at Mod Media:
Austin's Asylum Street Spankers remain Mod Media's flagship act. Still going strong after 12 + years, they have recently released their first "kids" record, Mommy Says No! on Yellow Dog Records. They continue their endless tour (they will probably be coming soon to a town near you) and continue to wow audiences around the U.S., Japan and Europe with their peerless live show.

Other acts that Mod Media is currently promoting include:

  • The long-running (over two decades now) Americana pioneers, father and son duo The Spanic Boys and their new CD, Sunshine (recently reviewed in USA Today, Harp, No Depression and other magazines).
  • From Los Angeles comes the side-show avant garde mind-melt Ego Plum and The Ebola Music Orchestra and their new CD The Rat King, praised (in advance) by David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets) and members of Devo and Oingo Boingo.
  • From Tucson, young (19 years old) singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Collberg has recently released his self-titled and self-produced debut CD.
  • From Cincinnati, rocking blues combo Pearlene are set to release their third CD, For Western Violence and Brief Sensuality. Pearlene are fronted by Reuben Glaser, who also plays with the fabulous Viva La Foxx. A tour is currently being booked.
  • Also from Cincinnati, the instrumental three-piece Ampline released their third CD, Rosary, and will be touring in support.
  • Mod Media is currently promoting a tour by the eclectic Brooklyn based act Jaggery in support of their new CD, Polyhymnia.

2006 was an exceptionally busy year for Mod Media. Here's a very brief run-down on some of the projects Mod Media worked on in 2006.

  • Tour and CD press for Austin's Weary Boys and their Jumpin' Jolie CD.
  • Tour press for Austin's fabulous Golden Arm Trio, touring in support of their soundtrack for Richard Linkletter's A Scanner Darkly.
  • National press for the multi-talented, bass playing chanteuse and glamour girl Abby Travis' new CD GlitterMouth.
  • National press for Los Angeles' vet Josie Cotton and her terrific Movie Disaster Music CD.
  • Press for the insanely prolific one-man-band Bazza and two of his CDs.
  • Press for the Brooklyn-by-way-of-Philadelphia indie pop band The Lil' Hospital.
  • A Mod Media alliance with Shake It Records in Cincinnati was especially fruitful, with releases by Staggering Statistics (featuring John Curley from Afghan Whigs), Viva La Foxx, Wussy (with Chuck Cleaver from Ass Ponys) and Ampline. Of special note from Shake It is a compilation of 60s and 70s tracks from soul/funk/gospel cat Kenny Smith, One More Day. Shake It is currently working on a huge, 3 CD compilation of rare mid-west soul and funk tracks.

More to come in 2007!
